  • Description and History

The Glaug (pronounced "Glaaj") is a larger and more heavily armed tactical pod used by unit commanders in the mobile weapon forces of the Zentradi Army. Built with greater firepower than the standard Reguld Battle Pod, the Glaug has two arm units each holding one large-bore and one small-bore impact cannon. A rare long-range electron beam cannon is mounted atop the Glaug and two standard anti-personnel cannons are positioned on the lower front torso. The Glaug surpasses the thruster output of a Reguld and compares favorably with a variable fighter for maneuverability. To handle the increased power demands, the Glaug has a much more powerful single fusion reactor. Like the Reguld, the Glaug has numerous vernier thrusters and powerful dual engines for space flight but is typically ground-based within a planetary atmosphere due to a lack of practical aerial combat capability.

The Glaug was historically deployed much more frequently in the Zentradi Army but has become somewhat of a rarity in the modern age of Space War I. Roughly 280,000 cycles before the present era, the Supervision Army succeeded in an all-fronts attack upon the Roiquonmi fully automated weapons factory, thus significantly curtailing the Zentradi's supply of Glaug tactical pods. The rarity of the Glaug persisted until roughly 3,700 cycles before the present era when a supply of nearly new Glaug units was recovered from an opened weapons storage facility. Quamzin / Kamjin Kravshera repeatedly made use of a Glaug for his operations in Space War I, posessing a supply of the pods to replace damaged units.

NOTE: The Glaug 1/100 scale model kit (released 1992) by Bandai includes an insert which confirms the location of the 6 close-combat missile launchers. Thanks go out to Macross fan Frank H Tano.
