    Description and History

The legendary SDF-1 Macross still remains in active service in 2040. Refit several times, the ship acts as home of the U.N. Military Command and is berthed in Macross City (within the lake named after the ship) on Earth. The SDF-1 appears virtually unchanged after the 2012 refit, but appears to have a slightly altered color possibly due to the need for upgrades to the hull as age requires the old hull to be replaced. The SDF-1 Macross also has been refitted with newer anti-ship and anti-fighter weapons and groups of rotating cannon emplacements are found all across the hull.

In March 2040 the UNG was celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Space War I Armistice. This massive celebration eventually became infamous for the "Sharon Apple Incident" when virturoid idol singer Sharon Apple had a dangerous bio-neural chip installed and subsequently experienced violent bouts of self-preservation and paranoia. The machine took control of the SDF-1 Macross and the Ghost X-9 fighter by spreading her own artificial consciousness into the control computers. As an advanced live performing intelligence, Sharon Apple had previously made use of numerous light and sound frequencies to elicit physical and emotional reactions from her human audience. When her paranoid tendancies began to rule her own thinking, Sharon Apple took her audio/visual presentations to their utmost extent. There are still debates among many regarding how Sharon affected the population of Macross City. Some have suggested a hypnotic effect or benign seizures incapacitated those who observed her final show. Regardless, Sharon successfully incapacitated enough people to allow her to freely act and control the SDF-1 Macross which she then activated the engines and gravity control system to lift the ship above the city. In battle, she used the X-9 Ghost to attack Guld Bowman in the YF-21, who successfully destroyed the X-9 Ghost fighter but only at the cost of his own craft and his life. In Macross City, Sharon attempted to kill Isamu Dyson in the YF-19 using the weapons of the SDF-1 Macross. Fortunately Dyson was able to avoid the SDF-1's fire, penetrate the hull of the bridge and destroy the central computer core thereby destroying the Sharon Apple intelligence. The SDF-1 then uncontrollably descended back into Macross Lake, though the gravity control systems ensured the craft landed safely.
