The Super variant of the VF-5000 mirage features the addition of two distinct hardware packages like most variable fighters with super parts. The most noticeable addition is the space/atmospheric-escape ramjet booster pack system mounted via two pylons upon the dorsal section of the fuselage. The booster is a ramjet/rocket hybrid engine with a propellant tank and two forward ordnance ports for the two micro-missile launchers. The VF-5000 is further enhanced with two leg/engine-pod-mounted conformal propellant tanks with numerous additional vernier thrusters. The Super Booster set allows the VF-5000 the ability to launch from the surface of a planet and into orbit. The additional weapons and propellant increases the operational capabilities of the VF-5000 for extended sorties in space. Laiza, a native of Zola, piloted a VF-5000 Super Booster during her service in the Zolan Galactic Whale Patrol unit.
NOTE: The VF-5000's designation was inspired by the Dassault Mirage 2000. Studio HalfEye has called its model the "Star Mirage," although Shoji Kawamori has indicated that such a designation is only a nickname. The name "Star Mirage" has since been printed in the book Shoji Kawamori's Macross Design Works (2001).
